Gulf Stream Locale -A Field Laboratory for Cloud Process
نویسنده
چکیده
Clouds associated with the Gulf Stream Locale, (Figure 1) are in general due to the cyclogenesis or redevelopments of the storms off the east coast of the United States in winters, movement along the coast of the storms that are generated over the Gulf of Mexico in the spring and fall and mesoscale convective circulations present in all seasons. During the summer and early fall ,this region is also susceptible to hurricanes moving from the south. There have been several attempts to reproduce some of the observed synoptic and mesoscale features of these systems (e.g., Krei1zberg and Perkey 1977; Holt et al. 1990; Huang and Raman 1990, 1992; Liou et al. 1990). In the winter, even when no storms are present and an arctic high-pressure system controls the weather in the region, cold air outbreaks produce convective clouds over a wide area (Wayland and Raman 1989; Grossman and Betts 1990; Chou and Zimmerman 1989). Even with clear weather conditions, mesoscale convergence induced by the horizontal surface temperature gradients produces clouds over this region (Huang and Raman 1991).

A cloud line over the Gulf Stream
[1] A 1000 km long cloud-line over the major axis of the Gulf Stream was detected in imagery from a number of satellites on April 24, 2001. Analysis of environmental conditions shows that such a cloud-line is formed when the synoptic low-level wind is parallel to the Gulf Stream axis and the sky is clear, conditions that rarely occur in the hightemperature and high-moisture Gulf Stream region. ...
متن کاملPrecipitation Response to the Gulf Stream in an Atmospheric GCM*
The precipitation response to sea surface temperature (SST) gradients associated with the Gulf Stream is investigated using an atmospheric general circulation model. Forced by observed SST, the model simulates a narrow band of precipitation, surface convergence, and evaporation that closely follows the Gulf Stream, much like satellite observations. Such a Gulf Stream rainband disappears in the ...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Hydraulic Frac-turing Process for an Iranian Gas Field in the Persian Gulf
Most of the Iranian oil and gas wells in the Persian Gulf region are producing through their natural productivity and, in the near future, the use of stimulation methods will be undoubtedly necessary. Hydraulic fracturing as a popular technique can be a stimulation candidate. Due to the absence of adequate research in this field, numerical simulation can be an appropriate method to investigate ...
متن کاملCommunication-Aware Traffic Stream Optimization for Virtual Machine Placement in Cloud Datacenters with VL2 Topology
By pervasiveness of cloud computing, a colossal amount of applications from gigantic organizations increasingly tend to rely on cloud services. These demands caused a great number of applications in form of couple of virtual machines (VMs) requests to be executed on data centers’ servers. Some of applications are as big as not possible to be processed upon a single VM. Also, there exists severa...
متن کاملVelocity vectors for features of sequential oceanographic images
This paper investigates a fundamental problem of determining the position, orientation, and velocity field of the Gulf Stream in time-varying imagery. We propose an approximation method to characterize the deformation of these image motions for the purpose of estimating the velocity field of these images. The technique is focused on the interpretation of the change in the extracted features of ...
